V/H/S/2 (2013)

Bargain Bucket

A couple of detectives looking for a student who has gone missing break into a house where whilst one of them goes snooping around upstairs the other starts wading through various tapes lying around.

So that's the basic set up to "V/H/S/2" and whilst this set up has a story of sorts its real purpose is like with any horror anthology, there as way of linking small horror stories. And as such with each tape the detective views we get a small horror story different to the next and directed by a different director to the last. The horror anthology has always been a good way of putting together some mini horror ideas and not doing the stupid thing of dragging them out.

The trouble is that not once did any of these mini horror stories have any effect of me. I was never drawn in, put on the edge of my seat or sent cowering by the unexpected; I wasn't even amused by any of it. And this is always the issues with anthologies as there is no time to establish likeable characters and it is all about the idea, the horror concept and sadly those in "V/H/S/2" did little for me although I will say that each of them was nicely produced with some decent effects in places.

What this all boils down to is that "V/H/S/2" probably is entertaining for some, those who enjoy shall we say the experimentation of young directors to try and do something different. But for me "V/H/S/2" had the same issues which befall many horror anthologies, the briefness of the segments prevents them from truly being engaging.
