Attack of the Zombies from Mars
The first manned mission is coming to a close and the team are preparing not only for their return home but for their replacements to return. That is everyone except one of the team who heads out to collect more samples as he believes he has found fossilized proof of life having existed on Mars. But things don't go to plan and not only does the explorer fall into a crevice which opens up beneath him but other members of the team disappear, leading to the others to face a battle for survival.
I would really love to know what those involved in "The Last Days on Mars" because surely someone must have questioned a storyline which whilst set on mars features zombie like creatures reeking havoc on a small team who are stationed there. Heck even if they didn't question the whole zombie-like creature idea surely someone must have said "doesn't this sound a little bit 'Alien' like.
The thing is that if you can look past what is quite simply a ridiculous story idea then "The Last Days on Mars" delivers on everything else you would expect from a space based horror movie. The desert landscape with huge, rolling dust clouds certainly has the look whilst the small settlement of a space camp has a sort of vulnerability about it. And then there are the characters with the usual but entertaining variety of characters from are typical, slightly laid back hero to are high tension scientist. In truth even the horror effects of these zombies is good, but it is an utterly ridiculous idea which spoils the movie.
What this all boils down to is that "The Last Days on Mars" has almost everything you would want from a horror movie on Mars with a decent cast delivering entertaining performances. But unfortunately "The Last Days on Mars" is spoiled by what has got to be one of the strangest dangers found in space.
