Snow Queen (2012)

A Frozen World

The Snow Queen created the world of eternal winter where the polar wind cools human souls and clearness of lines obscure emotions. A girl named Gerda, her pet ferret Luta, and Orm the troll must save her brother Kai and the world.

Once again I find myself watching an animated movie which I know was made for a specific age group and those who are older, like me, might struggle to find it entertaining. As such let me say that this animated version of the "Snow Queen" is in my opinion a movie for those between 7 and 12 as that is the age where I imagine they will enjoy the animation work, the amusing voices and follow the story. In fact let me say now that for a movie not made from one of the big animation houses what you get in this is actually pretty decent. But it is in the details that you notice the difference such as a scene where a bridge collapses, where in some movies it would have cascaded down brick by brick this one falls in chunks. But to be honest the characters themselves are certainly entertaining with some comical detailing.

What this all boils down to is that "Snow Queen" is actually better than some might expect and whilst it might lack some attention to detail it still should work for a younger audience who will enjoy the humour, the characters and be able to follow the story. But this is an animation with little to offer any grown up who finds themselves watching it.
