Rugrats Go Wild (2003)

Swiss Family Rugrats

When a ship which the Rugrats and family are aboard gets hit by a storm they end up stranded on an island, the perfect place for the Rugrats to explore. But not only do they encounter some wild danger they also meet the Thornberrys, a family of adventurers who travel the world making wildlife documentaries.

As I mentioned in my review of "Rugrats: The Movie" I never really did The Rugrats when they were popular and when I did watch the movie it didn't do that much for me although began to understand why some adults enjoyed the humour. And to be honest "Rugrats Go Wild" had the same level of effect on me as "Rugrats: The Movie" as there is lots of noise, plenty of sight gags and some semi clever dialogue, basically it again delivers something for all the family. Although to be brutally honest whilst some of the amusing word play entertained far too often than not the noise, the arguing and the shouting ended up getting on my nerves.

What is clear is that "Rugrats Go Wild" puts a lot of focus on the music in the movie and it feels like not 5 minutes pass and you get another scene featuring some sort of music. I am sure it works for a younger audience and it certainly gives the impression there is always something going on. Of course there isn't and sadly as a grown up I began to realise that the musical aspect made up the majority of the movie with a lot of filler in between.

What this all boils down to is that "Rugrats Go Wild" isn't a bad movie and I am sure young audiences and those who grew up watching the adventures of these characters will enjoy it. But for me it felt like a slim idea filled out with lots of musical numbers which beyond the occasional clever lyrics combined to what end up a lot of noise.
