Free Birds (2013)

Cold Turkey

Thanks to the President's daughter, Reggie ended up being spared from being a Thanksgiving lunch as he became the annual pardoned Turkey. Living in the lap of luxury at the Whitehouse where he becomes hooked on a TV show Reggie ends up being taken by Jake who believes he is on a mission and needs to take Reggie to a top secret government time machine so they can travel back in time and prevent turkeys from becoming the Thanksgiving dish.

I will admit right away that I am way to old for the movie "Free Birds", this is a movie all about the comedy of stupid characters doing some stupid things on a frankly stupid quest. And unlike other animated movies which generally target a younger audience I have to say that this was a slog for me as it really struggled to deliver anything which came across as entertaining. Even the jokes generally failed to make me smile due to their predominantly stupid nature.

But as I said, I am way to old for "Free Birds" and I would imagine for younger audiences the whole package of daftness will entertaining. In fact I am pretty sure a nine year old me would have loved the whole nonsense of time travelling turkeys trying to prevent the turkey from becoming the traditional Thanksgiving meal and it is an amusing idea.

What this all boils down to is that whilst some animations work for all the family "Free Birds" is an animation which works for young children but offers little in the way of entertainment for any adults who choose to watch it.
