Toy Story of Terror (2013)

Toy Story Triumph

With Bonnie and her mum on a bit of a trip the toys; Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Mr Potato Head, Rex, Trixie and Mr. Pricklepants are all travelling in the boot of the car where they are watching a classic horror movie on a portable DVD player. But when the car runs in to trouble they all end up at a motel where Mr. Pricklepants observes many a horror movie is based in a motel. And there nightmare begins when one of them goes missing and Jessie will have to face her fears about being shut in a box to rescue everyone.

Sometimes the thought of enduring a 90 minute animation is too much for me to bare, it is not that I dislike animations but sometimes 90 minutes can become monotonous. It is one of the reasons why I actually looked forwards to watching "Toy Story of Terror" because in 22 minutes you get all the fun of a Toy Story movie. As such we get the familiar comedy of the characters; characters that you have to say are like old family friends who you are happy to see when they show up once in a while. But what you also get is a nicely contained story which nicely fills out 22 minutes and doesn't suffer from feeling padded out. It is as simple as that and it is enough especially with the addition of a couple of extra toy characters so that it feels like another step in the evolution of Toy Story rather than just a movie short produced to turn a quick profit.

What this all boils down to is that "Toy Story of Terror" is a solid entry in the Toy Story franchise and works well because at 22 minutes it delivers you a slice of entertainment without drawing anything out. And consider it is only 22 minutes there is no lack of attention with the voice work, writing and animations as great as ever.
