Lake Void

Sheriff Riley (John Schneider) not only has his moody teenage son Scott (Chad Michael Collins) to deal with but a local fisherman who believes that there is some thing in Lake Placid which killed his friend. That means that Riley has to deal with an ex, Emma (Sarah Lafleur), an official sent in to investigate what is going on up at the lake. What they discover is the rumours that the lake use to have monster crocodiles is not only true but that there are more angry crocodiles in the water.

In my movie definitions book, under the term "going through the motions", it says watch "Lake Placid 2". And whilst I made that bit up there is no denying that this is a comedy horror movie which really does just go through the motions and fails to entertain in anything close to the way "Lake Placid" did. As such we have crocodiles in the water, characters trying to prevent a tragedy, teen relatives in peril, fun loving campers who frolic in the lake naked and as this is a sequel we have Cloris Leachman playing the sister of the character Betty White played in the first movie. It simply feels like it reworks most of what filled that first movie with a few variations but nothing to make it really any different and certainly not better.

But then "Lake Placid 2" is really all about trying to be funny as in a scene where Emily says of course there can't be giant crocodiles in the lake only for one to appear behind her. I think in the entire movie there are probably three scenes which managed to make me laugh and the attempts of being tongue in cheek mostly end up failing. Even John Schneider turning on the charm and doing so in that slightly over the top, tongue in cheek manner fails to bring any joy to the movie.

What this all boils down to is that "Lake Placid 2" ends up a weak and mostly unfunny movie which really ends up playing on the love fans had for the original "Lake Placid".
