Dirty Yes, Movie No

"National Lampoon's Dirty Movie" to give it its full title purely as a way to pad out this review is the sort of movie you know is going to be bad even before you watch. But it is one of those movies which takes the meaning of bad to a whole new level. I thought some of the more recent spoof movies were bad but this is a new level of bad even worse than you can ever imagine.

Now "National Lampoon's Dirty Movie" is a movie without a story or at least in the traditional sense. What we get is this premise of a movie producer wanting to make a movie just full of dirty jokes, well dirty jokes, boobs, midgets, racial slurs, homophobic references and anything else which would get cheap laughs. So basically the idea is a movie about a movie being made which is not the worst idea in the world. But what we really get is a series of sketches and people standing in front of backdrops telling dirty jokes.

Now the thing is that as a movie "National Lampoon's Dirty Movie" fails but it could have worked as a 90 minute gag reel with jokes which comedy writers deemed were good but too risky for a normal comedy. Unfortunately the majority of the jokes are unfunny and when you get one unfunny gag after another it becomes monotonous. Don't get me wrong as the occasional joke makes you smile and in a way guilty for enjoying it but for the most it comes across like the ramblings of a group of drunk guys having let rip with locker room jokes.

What this all boils down to is that "National Lampoon's Dirty Movie" reaches a new level of comedy bad which I never thought was imaginable even when you watch it anticipating something bad.
