Kimberly Williams-Paisley in Darrow & Darrow (2017)

Law & Fun

When her father died Claire Darrow (Kimberly Williams-Paisley - The Christmas Train) took over his law practice and is making a name for herself in the town where she is a widowed mom of one. On the other hand her mother, Claire (Wendie Malick - Engaging Father Christmas), went to work in the city for a big law firm where she enjoyed the big money which comes from working with big law firms. But when Claire finds herself out of work and running out of money she returns home with the hope of working for her daughter even though they frequently clash, especially when it comes to how to raise Claire's intelligent teenage daughter Louise (Lilah Fitzgerald) who is struggling at school as she skipped a few years and doesn't fit in. But Claire also finds herself working on the same case as assistant DA Miles (Tom Cavanagh - A Killer Among Us) when Dave (Kirby Morrow), the friendly owner of a cafe, finds himself arrested and with a criminal history fears the worst.

I remember a few years back Tom Cavanagh starred in a Christmas movie called "Snow" and he had a great vibe going on with his co-star which was Ashley Williams. Well it seems that Cavanagh has chemistry with Ashley's sister Kimberly Williams-Paisley as well as they have great banter which is a major part of what makes "Darrow & Darrow" work and a reason why I reckon there will be more of these movies to come. In fact 75% of "Darrow & Darrow" feels like it is doing the groundwork for further movies as we learn about Claire's background, we meet her mom and learn of the tension between them, get introduced to her smart daughter and of course meet Miles, who is also a widow and is fond of Claire. In many ways this has that similar light-hearted vibe of the "Signed Sealed Delivered" movies with a similar mix of characters and the initial elements when it comes to character relationships.

What this means is that a lot of "Darrow & Darrow" is about the character interactions be it Claire and her mom who she thinks is interfering or Claire's work colleagues who both have a secret crush on an assistant. But there is of course the case which is that of Dave being charged with a crime whilst Claire believes the friendly cafe owner who has a criminal past is in fact innocent. But this is one of those movies where whilst we have some crime solving it is more a case of things falling in to place just in the nick of time for Claire to seem to pull a miracle out of the air in the courtroom to save the innocent man.

What this all boils down to is that "Darrow & Darrow" is one of those movies which is all about the light hearted fun which comes from the character interactions. And that works because the producers got the right mix of characters and actors who all play off of each other nicely.
