Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (2013)

Flint's Food Crisis

After the mess he created with his food making machine Flint and his friends are ordered out of town. It is then that he is contacted by his idol, inventor Chester V who offers him a chance to join The Live Corp Company who thanks to the United Nations have the job of clearing up his mess on the island. But when Flint discovers that the machine he built is still running but creating food beasts thanks to some nefarious activity it is up to Flint and his friends to save the day and stop the food crisis.

Welcome to Jurassic Food which a bald headed technology genius with a penchant for orange plans to exploit for the latest version of his biscuit. I think that covers it and as such it would be fair to say that "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2" whilst giving us a sequel to the original animated movie relies heaving on pop culture references to entertain. And to be honest all those pop culture references do make you smile especially as a grown up whilst the visual gags of Jurassic food as Taco beasts with chilli tales roam the Willy Wonka-esque landscape.

But that is really it when it comes to "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2" because rather than feeling like a story with a character journey it relies on those pop culture references alone. Now again as I said it works but it feels like there is something missing and when it is over you kind of feel short changed by it.

What this all boils down to is that "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2" will certainly entertain, especially a younger audience due to plenty of visual gags. But for adults it feels like it is missing something and so in the end it feels little more than animated pop culture references.
